In 2022, a community-based facility advisory committee recommended a two-phase planto update and replace the district’s outdoor activities complex, including fields, amenities like concessions and restrooms, and parking, and add additional classroom space in both the secondary school and elementary school. Phase 1 — the softball and baseball complex and high school science classrooms — was complete in 2024 and 2025.

The following projects are phase 2:

Indoor learning spaces

In order to add classroom space without an addition to the building, the proposed plan will reconfigure existing learning spaces. Seventh and eighth grade will move from the current location in the elementary wing to create a secondary school in the other academic wing. This means middle school students will no longer need to walk through the elementary school to access the secondary administration, nurse’s office, commons, and gym. Renovating and reconfiguring existing space will allow for a new 7/8 science lab. Restrooms in this part of the building will also be renovated.

This move will also create more space in the elementary school, creating two new classrooms and allowing all Pre-K classes and daycare to be located together. In addition to renovating classrooms and updating the library, other improvements to the building include: repairs to address exterior wall and roof issues as well as adding air conditioning to the gym and kitchen. Once this is complete the entire building (except some corridors) will be air conditioned.

Outdoor learning spaces

Improving the district’s outdoor facilities was the top community priority that came out of a 2024 survey.

A new multipurpose activities complex will replace the current football field and track which has significant safety and functional issues. The new outdoor activities facility will include a new field, track, shot put and discus, home bleachers for 1,000, visitor bleachers, and a press box.

It will be located near the recently completed concessions stand to allow the stand to serve all the fields. The restrooms between the current baseball an softball fields will be added onto to serve the entire activity complex. The current field will continue to be used for recess and practices. By replacing instead of renovating, the district will avoid disrupting future football seasons.

Moving the current field and track also allows for expanded play areas at the site of the current elementary playground and extended into the current track and football field areas. It will include accessible play equipment; paved areas for games like basketball, gaga ball, and four square; green space; and a shaded outdoor classroom. It will also include a separate pre-K/K playground, which will be relocated from the current location close to the pick up/drop off area, addressing safety issues caused by the current playground layout.

Moving the football field and track also allows for a new outdoor learning area and playground to be added near the Elementary School wing. This will replace the current PreK/K playground that is close to the pick up/drop off area, which creates safety concerns. This all-ages space will serve as an outdoor classroom, can be used during recess and will be open for community use outside of school and daycare hours.
